    This year's fair (2011) was held Friday, May 13 (9am-6pm) and Saturday, May 14 (9am-4pm)
    Fair location: Hyde Park Shopping Center/ 55th Street and South Lake Park (60615)
    A huge variety of plants--but alas, for only two days a year!

           ...I have never been here, but I'm guessing it is a very good garden center!

Ace Hardware (Hyde Park Shopping Center)
CVS on 53rd St. --has a surprising number of basic gardening things, including potting kits
Home Depot
Gethsemane Gardens (has an exceptional array of trellises, fountains, benches, large pots)
??? probably Old Town Gardens ???
Also, keep an eye on http://www.marketplace.uchicago.edu/
     --people often advertise soil, worms, and pots (and more--often for free!)
